We have taken the hassle out of your dolphin encounter. We are right at your back door and ready to introduce you to the playful dolphins of Port Stephens. You can book on line by clicking the big pink button above, or just call 1300 721 358 to speak to our friendly staff today. Check out the calendar and choose a date that fits your needs.

Dolphin Swim Australia has been doing some ground breaking research and has uncovered some exciting new information. While swimming with wild dolphins in the Port Stephens Great Lakes Marine Park, in NSW we have started to see some new pictures unfold. It seems we have the perfect platform for dolphin mothers to train their young. The open ocean can be a harsh environment to raise a dolphin calf. There are many things the little dolphin must learn. One of the first things to learn is how to move around boat traffic so that you are not injured or killed. Jet-skies and line-trolling-fishing vessels, are some of the most dangerous to dolphins, as dolphins can not always determine what is going to happen next. The jet skis can turn with incredible speed and precision, leaving a dolphin confused, or even worse, impacted. The fishing boats cut through the water, which a dolphin can usually detect, but the fishing line, is quite literally undetected by the dolphin. It can also be dragging a very sharp and dangerous fishing lures. This tackle can be covered with sharp hooks that spin and imbed within the soft dolphin flesh. Many people don’t even realize how at risk the dolphins are. The little dolphins are even more at risk as they have not been properly exposed to boat traffic, much less, these high profile vehicles. Before a young dolphin can even begin to understand the movements of streamlined vessels, it must first get comfortable navigating around simple vessels. It might just be the very first time the little dolphin has ever encountered a boat. This is where we are seeing incredible behaviors. Mother dolphins have been documented escorting their juveniles up to the dolphin swim vessel, displaying teaching strategies. The dolphins can be seen pushing the their young up to the bow area, and then moving them in a way to accelerate their understanding of ocean vessels. These mothers are quite intelligent to have considered this, as we obviously represent a safe and effective way to train a young dolphin to interact with boat traffic. We are a slow moving vessel which offers safe access to the bow area. We also have shrouded, or covered props, which adds to the level of safety. We will soon be writing more about these strategies and submitting video of these unique behaviors.
