Some old Friends Return
It was a wonderful sunny day so our camera man decided to board Imagine cruises to film some whales. The boat hit the main grounds when out of the blue came some dolphins. The animals were barreling towards the boat and the excitement mounted. It had been quite a while since our camera man had seen the dolphins, and even he was excited. One of our favorite dolphins, and one of his, is a dolphin we call Bubbles. Bubbles is one of our favorites because she never seems to tire of making a display of herself. Bubbles is quite the show off and seems to ramp up the crowd, any time she can. If we didn’t know better it would appear she even gets the dolphins going. There she was in all her glory, and she was in the presence of, yes…that’s right, Panama, a very rambunctious male. Now keep in mind that both these animals appear to be alpha rankings, so things tend to really heat up when alpha animals get together.
There was quite a bit of activity and everyone on board was enjoying the dolphins. This group of dolphins is very familiar with the boat and was ready for some “swimming with dolphins” action. The playful gang was waiting for our swimmers to get into position. It is a system they are used to, and seem to get quite excited in preparation for the interaction. They danced upon the bow waves ready and waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Nothing was happening. The camera man said it was obvious they had one thing in mind, and that was swimming with funny humans. He began to laugh and thought to himself, it’s only a matter of time. Yes, he was right. As soon as the gang realized there would be no swimming with humans, they were off, just as quickly as they came.
So it’s only a matter of time before we sail out to meet our wonderful aquatic friends in the beautiful waters of the Port Stephens Marine Park. Dolphin Swim Australia is just about ready to get you up close and personal with Bubbles and her gang. She is back in the Park, and ready for some action. Don’t worry Bubbles, we’ll be out there soon to let you stir up some fun. Check in with us for regular updates on Bubbles and her cohorts. We’ll post new shots of MIss “B” and the animals traveling in her group. Give us a call and get your spots booked for the opening weekend. It’s going to be a great one!
Dolphin Swimming Season Opens October 1st 2011
On the 1st of October we begin a new season of dolphin swimming in Port Stephens, with Dolphin Swim Australia. Swimming with dolphins using the world first AMVE technique is a great opportunity to experience the short beaked common dolphins in their natural environment.
When a baby dolphin is born, it assumes a very close positioning to it’s mother’s body. The young dolphin rides in its mother’s slip stream, thus conserving energy as it is carried along in the waves generated by Moms movements. As time goes on, the dolphin learns that not only can it ride the waves generated by mom, it can also ride the waves generated by the ocean itself, boats, and even whales. The dolphins find riding the waves, one of their favorite past times. This is why DSA is such a fantastic way to swim with dolphins. It relies on the innate behavior of dolphins to ride the wave. They dance and jockey for key positions, and it seems that they actually enjoy interacting with us. It is always wonderful to watch as the dolphins mount and ride the bow of passing vessels, but add the dolphin swim to the mix and it is a sight to behold!
The ever graceful dolphins are always a wonderful source of entertainment, and our participants never tire of watching their magnificent displays. The swim brings dolphins in by the thousands. Many times there are so many dolphins, they don’t even fit on the camera screen. The Port Stephens / Great Lakes Marine Park is one of the best places in the world to see these beautiful displays. The population is abundant, and extraordinarily social. The friendly dolphins come to interact with us on a regular basis, which gives us a wonderful opportunity to engage the dolphins time and time again. It is only now that we are beginning to see their true behaviors unfolding. Two years in to the program and they keep surprising us with exceptional behaviors. Have a look at our calendar and choose a date that fits your schedule, as you won’t want to miss out on this exciting season of swimming with dolphins here in the local waters of beautiful Port Stephens with the dolphin whisperer, Andrew Parker, and Dolphin Swim Australia.
